Getting Creative with Your Decor
Well, we are still in this fight to stay upbeat and positive during this time of quarantine. Due to the continued health crisis, we want to take this moment to thank all of you who are on the “front lines.” We deeply appreciate all of those in our community who are working hard to keep us healthy and safe. You are sacrificing daily for the greater good and we want you to know that we see and acknowledge your sacrifice. Thank you!!
This season of life is hard on everyone and there are many shared challenges and struggles amongst us, one of which is definitely, cabin fever. So, we want to share a little design inspiration in the hopes that it will ease some of your cabin fever. In specific, we want to share with you three ways to get creative with your decor and breathe new life into your space.
Utilize Smaller Decor in a Collage
Collaging with some smaller decor items is a great way to tackle a larger blank space and provide some interest. In our example, we had a blank wall and instead of using one large piece we selected four smaller pieces of square wood art to hang together as a unit. Collaging the art together has the benefit of visually reading as one piece while at the same time providing extra interest through the small differences in each individual square.
Think Outside the “Purpose” Box
Sometimes we get stuck with thinking that a decor item can only be used for its original “purpose.” However, if we think outside of that box and allow ourselves to “play” a bit, then we can wind up with some exciting design. For example, in our display wall we have added in a few toss pillows, several decorative trays and a knit throw to round out the decor on our display wall. In your home you may want to use a decorative ball on a candle holder to feature it on your mantle or use a picture frame to hold a pretty card or memento that has special meaning for you.
Layer Your Decor
Arranging your decor in layers is also a great way to provide interest and has the added benefit of allowing for easy refreshment. In layering a few vases in front of a piece of hanging wood art on one shelf and stacking decorative boxes on another shelf we have created interest for the eye. We have also provided a plethora of options that can be quickly rearranged when a decorative refresh is needed. Simply changing which items are layered in front of each other or swapping out pieces from one shelf to another can create a whole new look without a lot of effort.
We hope you find these tips helpful and that it eases the doldrums and monotony of being stuck in the same space for an extended period of time.
